Preparing Series

What topics are covered in the class?

The 3-week Preparing Series covers the important topics that will help you through the early postnatal time after your baby is born. These topics include newborn care and feeding, and caring for your own postpartum emotional and physical health. Week one: Newborn Feeding covers typical newborn nursing and nutritional needs, as well as the supports new parents typically need around lactation. Week two: Newborn Care covers the range of newborn needs, characteristics, reflexes, and behaviors, as well as age-appropriate sleep patterns and an assortment of soothing and settling options. Week three: Your Fourth Trimester is not about preparing for the new baby but an honest look at tending to the very real needs of new parents in the first 6 weeks to 6 months after a baby arrives.

When should I register & when should I take this class?

We recommend signing up three months in advance, in your first or second trimester. This class is offered every month and can be taken sometime in your second or third trimester or at 26-31 weeks gestation. If classes are full we recommend signing up for the waitlist. We are sometimes able to offer an additional session if there is enough interest.

Should I take both Preparing Series and Birth Class?

Yes! We recommend taking both the Preparing Series and Birth Class series, as the information covered in these classes complement each other well. We find it is most helpful to take the Preparing Series first (sometime in your second or third trimester or at 26-31 weeks gestation,) and the Birth Class second (taken so that the last class ends at about 36-weeks gestation, or 3 weeks before your EDD).
